NAAM Foundation is all set to build schools for the children of army and para-military force personnel.

Thane: Actors Nana Patekar and Makrand Anaspure’s philanthropic work is well known. The duo’s NAAM Foundation has been aiding families of the farmers who had committed suicide in 2015 owing to crop failure in Maharashtra.

The foundation is now expanding its horizon and coming to the aid of children of defence personnel who had died in the line of duty for the nation.

NAAM Foundation is all set to build schools for the children of army and para-military force personnel. “The schools would come up in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Manipur,” said Mr Anaspure.

He added that owing to deaths of many defence personnel last year, we found that there is dire need for schools in these states, so we decided to extend our work in the north-eastern region.

Talking about their work for farmers in Maharashtra, he said that around 20 lakh farmers will be benefited after foundation’s desilting work in the villages. “At least this year we hope the farmers will not suffer.”

In an interview with NDTV earlier, actor Nana Patekar had said, “It was heart-wrenching to meet the widows of farmers sitting expressionless” and that his “life’s aim now is to help distressed farmers”.

Mr Anaspure brought to the attention that farmers tend to be at loss as micro finance firms charge as much as 35 per cent interest in some parts of the state.

“We want that farmers should stop ending their lives due to failure of crops and heavy debts,” Mr Anaspure said.

In another effort, the foundation will also organise market camps for the sale of pulses and other materials to help farmers who have been facing hardships, he said.
