9 Children In Hospital After ‘Dead Rat’ Found In Delhi School’s Mid-day Meal

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia reached the hospital to take stock of the situation.

New Delhi: At a government school in South Delhi’s Deoli area, nine students were taken ill after eating a mid-day meal that allegedly had a rat in it.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia took to Twitter and said that the nine students were immediately rushed to the hospital and he has spoken to the doctors, the students are fine.

Mr Sisodia wrote that an FIR has been lodged against the mid-day meal supplier and they would be blacklisted. Such carelessness towards kids will not be tolerated, he added.

He further wrote that the meals will now be prepared at the school kitchen in presence of our officers.

The meal was served to the students of classes VI-VIII of Government Boys’ Senior Secondary School in Deoli area. They were served aloo puri for lunch. After eating the meal, the children complained of vomiting and stomach ache and were rushed to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Malviya Nagar.

The minister also visited the hospital to enquire about the students’ health and assured of strict action against those found guilty.

“Nine kids have come to the hospital with abdominal pain. They are stable and are being observed. They will be discharged in a while after symptomatic treatment,” Dr R Chugh, medical superintendent of Madan Mohan Malviya hospital told the Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have filed a complaint to the police.

“All the children are out of danger. School authorities are giving complaint in this regard,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
