Delhi’s Homeless Get Their Own ‘Mohalla Clinics’

A 50-bed recovery shelter was also inaugurated at Sarai Kale Khan for those who are discharged from the hospital.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated two mohalla clinics for homeless people on Friday.

The clinics have come up at Dandi Park, near Kashmere Gate ISBT, in north Delhi and Sarai Kale Khan in south Delhi.

“It is the first time that a government is trying to give a respectful life to the poor. Earlier governments thought of poor only when they needed votes,” Mr Kejriwal said.

He added that the government wanted to complete 1,000 mohalla clinics by end of this year but the file has not been cleared by the Lt Governor.

“As soon as the file is cleared, we will set up 1,000 mohalla clinics across Delhi in three to four months,” Mr Kejriwal added.

The two clinics have come up at Dandi Park, near Kashmere Gate ISBT, and Sarai Kale Khan.

The AAP leader said that even people from rich families were going to mohalla clinics for treatment.

A government statement said that dedicated mohalla clinic at Dandi Park will provide free medicines and free medical check-ups to the five shelters for the homeless with a total capacity of 750 people.

The shelters are being run by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The clinic at Sarai Kale Khan will cater to five shelters having capacity of 600 people, the statement said.

“In addition, a 50-bed recovery shelter was also inaugurated at Sarai Kale Khan for those who are discharged from the hospital and are in dire need of care for recovery after illness, but have nowhere to go,” it added.

  3. for a change he is working and presents a vision! hopefully atleast he will form a legacy around mohalla clinics. Instead of making non-issues into issues, stick to your plan sir and we want results. Not everyday fighting

  4. Congratulations to Mr. Kejriwal and to Aam Aadmi Party. Your dedication is highly appreciated. Wish you all the best for your future plans.

  5. Keep up the good work Delhi Government! Hope Delhi CM avoids hobnobbing with scam-ridden tainted political goons from other states and focuses more on Delhi’s governance.

Mr. Kejriwal should never forget the anti-corruption plank on which he made his political mark. He should remember that the journey matters as much if not more than the end. Power is a very corrupting influence. Many politicians have started with good intentions only to veer off the tracks along the way….Good luck.
