- Contraceptives can be delivered any time of the day
- Order can be placed online, via whatsapp and snapchat
- Order is free if the product is not delivered within 30 minutes
Gurgaon: As home deliveries go, this one breaks new grounds. A new start-up by an 18-year-old college student puts safe sex just a click away – offering time-bound home delivery of contraceptives. And much like pizzas, the product is free if it is not delivered within 30 minutes.
SMS Contraceptive, which went live on September 15, already had at least 100 orders and more than 11,000 hits on their website. And while for now, the service is available only in Millennium City Gurgaon, offers to be a franchisee has been pouring in from across the country.
Headed by Sirhaan Seth, “SMS Contraceptive” came about after a friend of his faced an awkward moment at a pharmacy store when she asked for condoms.
It made him realise the immediate need for a service that is reliable and discreet.
With his own funds, accumulated from a previous part-time job and a small loan from parents, Mr Seth set out to deliver condoms, birth control pills, lubricants and instant pregnancy tests.
The delivery is available round-the clock – with his 4-member team working shifts. The orders can be placed via a phone call, WhatsApp, SnapChat, texts and online.
“There has been a lot of interest from Gujarat because of the conservative environment and the need for privacy,” said Mr Seth. He plans to venture into South Delhi by mid-October and to other states by next year.
A client who didn’t want to be named told NDTV, “There are online portals providing sex related products but they usually take more than a day to deliver. But one can’t plan such things so this initiative caters to the sudden nature/urgency of such matters.”
