VADODARA: FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) plans to set up two ‘Mahila Huts’ in the state for the upliftment of women belonging to all sections of the society through education and training.
FLO is the women wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) which encourages and facilitates women to showcase their talents, skills, experiences and energies across sectors.
“We plan to set up the ‘Mahila Hut’ at Vadodara and Ahmedabad,” Gujarat unit FLO Chairperson Roopa Patel, told PTI today.
The city-based social entrepreneur said, “I will request to Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) to give a plot… to FLO for developing it, where a ‘Mahila Hut’ can be set up.”
The centre (Mahila Hut) is a place where women belonging to all sections of the society, particularly the weaker one, can display products made by them to earn a livelihood, she said.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has already agreed to give a plot to FLO for setting up a hut and the work will begin soon, she informed.
Patel said her focus will is on empowering the girl-child and women at the grass-root level through education and training.
“Through this platform, I want to initiate quality training programme for women in non-traditional jobs and support young women entrepreneurs through skill development,” she added.
The Gujarat unit of FLO will also construct women’s toilets in primary schools in rural areas of the state.
“We support efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in making Gujarat an ‘open defecation free’ state,” Patel said.
